Spicy Frog Balls

It all started a couple of weeks ago. I was riding in the passenger seat, driving north on Hwy 1 somewhere between Santa Cruz and SF. We passed a sign:

It wasn’t the artichokes that grabbed our attention, it was the Brussel Sprouts. We pulled a quick U and headed back to grab some fresh brussels, still on the stalk!

I brought them home, washed them, and set them in a bowl. I had so many Brussels Sprouts, what was I going to do with all of these brussels?

PICKLE THEM!

And now they sit, with 1 week left to go in the pickling process.

Here’s a close up

I take them out at least one a day and shake them around in anticipation. “Goes great in bloody marys and martinis” the recipe says. Less than a week to go now and I will know how my first (and definitely not my last) foray into pickling went. I will keep you posted.

  2. [...] still high from the success of my pickled brussel sprout extravaganza, I dove into a new veggie to pickle: beans! These ones should sit for a month to pickle properly. [...]

Don’t those stalks of ripe round greeness seem like they are from another planet?! They are such misunderstood little guys. I was treated to my first “frog ball” today by someone who had brought a jar back from Arizona. I was so hoping for an actual recipe so that I could try to pickle some myself. Did you publish your recipe? If so, where can I access it. Thanks Dawn!
